Pictures: E-six & Roan Hang in the Burgh
E-Six (Emilio) and Roan (Matt) came to the burgh for LazerCrunk last week, but also hung around an extra day just for the hell of it. Â They were super good guys and we had a lot of fun both partying and hanging out. Â I stole a bunch of pics from Matt’s flickr account for stackinpaper.com, but feel free to go check out his pics on your own to see more than I posted on here, plus others from their various travels:Â http://flickr.com/photos/mattroan/
Thursday the guys got in via amtrak from Philly. Â We went straight to the club and setup the turntables, cd decks, mixer, and their video gear. Â The Steelers game was on, so we rocked that in the background as Geoff and I played until it was over, and the Chicago boys started. Â Then they rocked out, Geoff and I finished it up, and the afterparty continued at my place till who knows when. Â Good thing Geoff and I took work off the next day.
The next day I met up with Geoff, Emilio and Matt at Fatheads where the Order of the Neon Ninjas (OOTNN) first meeting went down. Â This might just have to be our temporary lodge until we can get a proper lair established. Â We walked down Carson St a bit, getting Emilio a haircut, waiting for the One-Up guys to never get back from the bank, and picking out some hot attire on the way. Â Later that night we hit up some India Garden before going to the Matt & Kim show, Brillobox and eventually “Fuck the Bullshit” at the Elks Lodge. Â E&M went on from 2-3 and I dropped some tunes from 3-3:30, courtesy of the cop who agreed to stay an extra half hour (thanks dude). Â Biggups to Joe for putting the benefit together, we had fun raving it up.

LazerCrunk: Now w/ Video
This just in, E-Six and Roan will be doing their live video mash-up thang for LazerCrunk next week. We’d thought this wasn’t going to be doable because of their equipment constraints, but it seems they were able to bring their video gear w/ them, so we’re good to go.
Flyers for the December LazerCrunk w/ Mathhead were sent to the printer today, so expect to have something to put into your pocket next week.

E-SIX & ROAN ( FIRST LIVE A/V DUO )
Emerging from scenes seemingly worlds apart though identical in passion, virtuosity and cultural influence, Emilio Abadia and Matt Roan form what is possibly the most innovative and engaging DJ duo to infiltrate the Windy City. A drive to isolate, capture, cut-up and then synthesize moments of both sonic and visual art mark the experience of one of their performances. Their sets, which are as meticulously curated as a gallery show and involve DVD clips edited to a click track, have resulted in a very respected event: Dance Party Magic, produced under the banner of their company Crossfader King. In individual sets, Abadia, known as E-Six, and Roan bring elements of their divergent musical backgrounds to the fore, adding unique options to Chicago clubbers apart from their visual and audio mash-ups. Each a relentless selector, E-Six and DJ Matt Roan are the perfect purveyors of your party experience.
Originally hailing from Daytona Beach, Florida, E-Six was a prominent promoter in the post-punk and hardcore rock scenes. He simultaneously absorbed many other musical movements of the time, including electronica at old-school raves, dirty South hip-hop, Miami bass and the more slickly produced sounds of beachside clubs. This schizophrenic appreciation resulted in what E-Six calls his “rock-any-kind-of-crowd music,†melding original remixes, bass-drenched club rap, electronic bangers, rock gems, ‘80s and ‘90s breaks and international underground.
Chicago native Roan got his chops in the classically trained realm, studying piano, guitar and drums from the age of eight onward. Four indie records, a stint at Lollapalooza and several club residencies later, his beat master prowess has surpassed the various DJs he watched in awe at the Northside Puma store he once managed. By teasing partygoers with a carefully constructed wall of atmospheric choices from across the map, E-Six and DJ Matt Roan are a club experience akin to champagne and truffles at an abandoned warehouse party: completely unexpected.
