Fri Sept 16th HYDRA! a collaborative art-danceparty-benefit @ Mexico City in Downtown Pittsburgh
| September 16, 2011 | ||
| 8:00 pm |
Soon Pittsburgh’s multi-headed Hydra will rear it’s head from the depths of the three rivers and descend upon Downtown’s Mexico City restaurant for the first time.
Pittsburgh is criticized by some for being too small and interconnected… yet often times these same qualities are what make it great. Hydra exists with the goal of bringing social/creative groups even closer together to show that cooperation, not competition, can yield the most rewarding results. To do this, a selection of the city’s dance/electronic music promoters and multi-format artists have come together to put on one show of monstrous proportions. The Hydra artists and promoters have chosen acts and exhibits to best represent their tastes and interests in a wide variety of genres and formats on two floors of sound and art.
In addition, a buffet of Mexico City’s Mexican food will be provided for guests starting at 8 promptly, so get there early!

Hydra has decided to feature a great local cause for this event which helps young kids around the city learn how to play, perform and write music called Arts Greenhouse. DJ Thermos is extremely instrumental in this organization and will be there to discuss AG with guests. In addition there will be silent auctions and more to benefit the cause financially.

Cosmic Revenge bio
Some artists devote themselves to a niche style, while others craft
their work in all sorts of different avenues as the result of a broad range of influence. Bay Area producer and multi instrumentalist Cosmic Revenge falls into the latter category, as his work is hard to pin down, but boldly embarks on a mission to further the ever mutating sounds of bass and sound system culture. Before donning his current moniker, his early productions were primarily hip hop and downtempo beats influenced by DJ Shadow, Masta Ace, Portishead, Leftfield, Air, and Mobb Deep. Around 2009 he fell in love with the grooves and heavy bass of UK Garage and 2 step, citing El-B’s “The Roots of El-B” as a big turning point for his productions. This new found passion for 2 step earned him a release on Whistla’s L2S Recordings, the Psychic EP. He sought to mix his 2 step influence with his chopped up sample style and vocal edits on the much praised Rnb/talkbox jam “Late Nights” which earned him a release on Kursed and later a 12″ on Glasgow’s Fortified Audio and plays by Bok Bok and Jackmaster. Seeking to make a throwback to his love for west coast hip hop and g-funk, his 808 jam “Mind Eraser” made it onto Distal and Mite’s Embassy Recordings out of Atlanta. Fresh off releasing a single out on Car Crash Set and a remix for Lucid on the newly hyped Pelican Fly label out of Belgium, and forthcoming singles on Freshmore and Frite Nite, Cosmic Revenge has no intention on slowing down his hustle for pushing sound systems to the limit while retaining melody and class.
